HOW TO APPLY

Target

The Summer School is aimed at Undergraduate and Master Degree students, or Master Graduate within 1 year since graduation (PhD students cannot apply) in Physics, Applied Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, Computing Science and Materials Science. Students are accepted into the Oxford, Heidelberg and Harvard research groups. Each student is guided by a supervisor, responsabile for her/his training program. Participants in the school will spend two months in Oxford/Heidelberg (CK20) or at Harvard university (MK20). A final talk and report about the project will be required during the duration of the program. In some cases the summer internship can be extended to a few months contract in preparation of a Master Degree Thesis. Some previous hardware experience is highly appreciated for the ConnectingKnowledge20 program.

Admission

Equal opportunity admission to the Summer School is open to students of any International University, on a highly competitive basis for the MoνingKnowledge20 program. Only EU students can apply to the ConnectingKnowledge20 program. Participants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, average score in exams, graduation score if applicable, and suitability for the program, as indicated in a personal statement and in the interview. The interviews can be performed in person or by Skype. The interview will be conducted in English. Candidates will be informed if they are on the interview shortlist.

Score requirements

Bachelor's degree students:
- Bachelor's degree average score at exams ranked in the "top 15%"
Master's degree students:
- Bachelor's degree final score ranked in the "top 10%"
- Master's degree average score at exams ranked in the "top 15%"
Master graduates:
- Master's degree final score ranked in the "top 10%"

Score requirements (Italian Universities)

"Triennale" students:
- average score at exams > 26/30
"Magistrale" students:
- "Triennale" degree final score > 100/110
- "Magistrale" average score at exams > 26/30
"Magistrale" graduates:
- "Magistrale" degree final score > 100/110

Support

The costs for the successful students are:
- health insurance valid for the planned period of stay in the US;
- travel expenses;
Funding sufficient to cover the living expenses (accommodation, food and other items) for the weeks in Oxford/Heidelberg and Harvard will be provided.
The Harvard Visa Office will provide the documents needed by the students to obtain the required J1 entry visit.

Application

The application form must be completed and sent by e-mail to oxford.ssprogram@physics.ox.ac.uk, together with:
- a motivation letter where the student should provide reasons why s/he seeks to be admitted to the program;
- 2 reference letters from professors or scientists at national or international laboratories. Letters should be e-mailed directly by the letter writers to oxford.ssprogram@physics.ox.ac.uk;
- a previous project, if available.

Candidates will be notified of acceptance by the end of March 2020.
